Freddie Cox had a good evening with his mates to celebrate his Maths Ph D at Oxford, a little bit to drink but not too much. He decides to take the short cut through an alley. There's a mugger lurking somewhere in the darkness of shadows, but never mind the good Professor Sir Roger has just impressed on him that since he cannot be seen the mugger does not exist. Quite suddenly Freddie is adroitly clopped round the head and doesn't know a thing. If Sir Roger were there he could have assured young Dr. Cox the mugger who took his last fiver did indeed not exist because he was never seen at all.

At some later point in time Freddie opens his eyes to see a blurred vision of complete loveliness leaning over him and is convinced this is either unreality or the next world. Then he hears his wife asking if the fruit machine will continue to pay out and he knows for sure he is indeed in the real world. The loveliness grins and assures the wife, oh yes he'll live alright. Then he sees his wife's face and realises she was there unseen and unbidden , waiting for him, loving him and willing him to live.
